For our Client, international production company, we are looking for the candidate for the position of:



Main Job Purpose:

To develop and execute a sales plan to maximise opportunities within the Central European territory which covers Germany and Eastern Europe including the key territories of Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Hungary and specified key accounts within the territory. 

Principal Areas of Accountability:

  • With the support and guidance of the Business Development Director, to set the annual budget and targets for all sales within the region, within assigned markets and clients, utilising support and knowledge from the wider organisation where required
  • To prospect the market place looking for a pipeline of potential opportunities within the existing traditional customer base, Tier 1 suppliers, as well as opportunities for company’s solutions within adjacent and new markets
  • To build and enable a sales organisation that can effectively expand sales for all products and services across all regions in Central Europe. To establish clear accountabilities for sales targets within the region, combined with specific ownership for account management and development
  • Where clients are active in multiple territories or sectors, to work with the team to ensure that intelligence and opportunities are maximised and that client growth plans are coordinated effectively.
  • To proactively develop new business in both existing and new markets while sustaining positive customer relationships within group guidelines and directives
  • To work with Business Development and Product Marketing to maximise opportunities for new products/services into business plans within the defined region
  • Over time, to build and lead a sales team in Central Europe, working to transfer knowledge and experience into the local team, establishing an organisation with clear accountabilities, combined with sound processes and systems locally that enable a responsive, accurate and detailed quoting and technical support platform 
  • To develop sound knowledge about the business strategy of existing and target clients to enable the development and implementation of a clear five year plan. This will include developing new channels to market and looking for new product/service opportunities; understanding what is critical to the customer (e.g. price, lead time, technical compliance, cycle time, quality, flexibility or other aspects) to support the development of products and services and to inform on the relative price position
  • To deliver sound market intelligence about key competitors, price and delivery positions, with an intimate knowledge of process and product requirements
  • To leverage existing relationships with other companies to enhance competitive advantage and maximise client spend with the Group 
  • Following agreed processes, be responsible for the effective negotiation of contracts through pre bid processes and supporting an effective order handover to the delivery team
  • In conjunction with the Project Management Team, to provide commercial support for all contracts within the territory ensuring that any variations to the contract terms are managed in terms of price and lead time impact
  • Working within the agreed budget and estimating framework, to ensure that all contracts negotiated meet the group target referring to the Sales Engineering/Business Development Director when margin is under threat
  • To negotiate and agree contract terms with customers in the territory, taking into account any aspects of risk, liability and cash implications as well as managing contract variations to establish a mutually acceptable conclusion
  • To be responsible for agent management within the assigned territory as appropriate, ensuring ethical compliance to group standards as well as supporting the vetting and approval of new agents; to monitor agent performance against agreed annual targets

Candidate Profile:

  • Relevant technical qualifications and business qualifications
  • Have a high attention to detail with the ability to be rigorously analytical
  • Be able to work effectively alone and as part of a team
  • Have practical and proven experience in a direct selling role throughout the wholesales lifecycle; experience gained in a technical B2B environment is essential, working directly and through agents and partners would be advantageous
  • Having the ability to close deals whilst maximising margin is essential
  • Proactivity and a sense of urgency is essential
  • Experience in winning and growing key accounts, particularly with ‘blue chip’ corporate customers in complex industries and organisations
  • Evidence of proactively developing growth strategies in partnership with customers
  • The ability to influence and negotiate at all levels within your own and customer organisations
  • Conscientious and self-motivated with the ability to work on your own initiative, as well as contributing strongly to the commercial team
  • An enthusiastic individual who is able to represent the company positively at all times
  • Holds a current and valid passport and willing to travel throughout the world – long haul flights will be premium economy. As well as being able to work from home, the appointed candidate must be able to spend time away from home for 50% or more of their working time
  • The ability to speak English fluently is essential and an additional foreign language is desirable, particularly German
  • Experience of selling complex machine tools and/or in automotive and/or oil and gas is essential
